Massiel Yanira ist in Quebec zu Hause. Das hört man ihrer Musik nicht an. Als Tochter einer lateinamerikanischen Mutter und eines in Quebec lebenden Vaters liegt ihr das Grenzübergreifende im Blut. Nach ausgedehnten Reisen durch Mittelamerika hat sie ihr Debütalbum weitgehend in Spanisch aufgenommen. « Una Voz » klingt allerdings nur selten nach Rumba, Cha Cha Cha oder anderen gängigen lateinamerikanischen Tanzrhythmen, sondern nach solidem spanischsprachigem Gesang, der sich mit einigen Ausnahmen fast schon europäisch gibt. Die meisten Kompositionen stammen aus ihrer eigenen Hand. Die Lieder sind perfekt auf ihre Stimme zugeschnitten,die zwar keine sehr große Klangbreite besitzt, aber sehr gefällig klingt und das Album zu angenehm anzuhörender Tagesbegleitmusik macht.
